Several materials are available to make dental crowns and bridges, but porcelain is the most realistic in appearance.

These restorations are made to match the color of your natural teeth, so no one will suspect that you've had any dental work done at all.

Additionally, our crowns and bridges are always custom-made to restore bite function and complement your smile.

How Dental Crowns Can Help You

Dental crowns are quite versatile and don't just protect teeth from further damage; they can be used to reshape, realign, or conceal discoloration, adding to a bright, healthy smile.

Dental crowns are caps that fit over treated teeth to the gumline. They restore function and esthetics while protecting the teeth underneath from damage or fracture.

A Dental Crown Supports a Weak Tooth

A dental crown provides a barrier between your bite force and tooth. This allows you to chew effectively without worrying about a tooth that was previously damaged.

Your Denver, CO dentists often caps your tooth following root canal treatment, especially if the infection has rendered your tooth weak and susceptible to damage.

A dental crown can also cap a broken tooth to prevent further fracture, and it is often the crown that saves an injured tooth from extraction.

A Dental Crown Improves Esthetics

If you have a marred or discolored tooth, a dental crown can easily conceal these issues.

When used in cosmetic dentistry, a tooth crown can hide the following:

  • Chipped or cracked tooth
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Misshapen tooth
  • Discolored tooth
  • Short tooth

A Dental Crown Restores a Dental Implant

Dental implants are the tooth replacement option most recommended by dentists. It is an artificial tooth root made of solid materials that bond or integrate easily into bone.

Your implant dentist in Denver, CO surgically places your tooth root and allows for an integration period. When that period finishes, we cap your new root with a dental crown.

A Dental Implant Stabilizes a Dental Bridge

A dental bridge closes the gap in your smile with restoring teeth situated between dental crowns. The restoring teeth rely on the dental crowns for stabilization and support.

The dental crowns cap the tooth to the left and right of your smile gap, allowing the restoring teeth to complete your smile. This fixed restoration is always natural-looking and functional.

The Process for Placing Dental Crowns in Denver

Placing a dental crown can usually be completed in two visits. During your first visit, we'll take digital x-rays of your teeth to determine if any underlying problems may affect the longevity of your tooth crown.

Digital x-rays are safer than traditional x-rays, which is why we rely on them in our dental office.

In most cases, Dr. Litvak and Dr. Woller will need to remove a small portion of the damaged tooth to leave enough space for the crown. Sometimes, however, we may need to build the tooth up to hold the crown securely.

Next, we'll take the impressions that are used to create an exact mold of the tooth. This mold is sent to our local dental lab, where highly skilled dental artisans design your new crown to our exact specifications.

Before you leave our dentist's office, we'll fit you with a temporary crown to wear for about four weeks while awaiting the final crown.

When your new crown is ready, you'll return to our dental office for the final placement of your restoration. At this time, we'll remove the temporary crown and adjust the new one, so it fits perfectly. Once we're happy with the fit, shade, and contour of the crown, we'll cement it securely in place.

Immediately, you are free to enjoy your meals and smile with confidence!

A Dental Bridge Gives You a Full Smile

Woman smiling at Washington Park in Denver COMissing teeth can take a toll on your self-esteem and contribute to further oral health issues, including tooth migration, enamel wear, and future cavities.

A dental bridge prevents tooth migration—teeth moving toward smile gaps—and helps prevent wear on your enamel as well as future cavities.

Your bridge—one or two artificial teeth cemented together—is fixed to healthy teeth with dental crowns.

Your dental bridge provides you with a complete and natural-looking smile.

Candidates for a Dental Bridge

Before undertaking any restorative dentistry, including tooth replacement, your dentist provides a consultation. At this initial visit, we talk to you about all available options and provide an exam to ensure the restoration you've chosen will give you the results you've been hoping for.

We also welcome your questions and invite you to share your concerns during this visit and throughout the restorative process.

If a dental bridge is right for you, we take impressions and send the results to a lab for bridge fabrication. Then, when you come into our dental office for your final bridge fitting, your dentist makes all final adjustments.

Immediately, you are free to enjoy your new smile.

Taking Care of Your New Smile

All the healthy habits you learned before crown and bridge placement still apply:

  • Visit your dentist twice yearly for checkups and teeth cleanings
  • Brush and floss your teeth twice daily or following every meal
  • Talk to your dentist if you notice any oral health changes

Your dentist or a team member will talk to you about bridge maintenance, which requires a small cleaning brush and floss threader for best results. This adds only a few minutes to your oral care routine.

Procedure for Dental Crowns in Denver, CO

Woman smiling outside cosmetic dentist office in Denver COIn most cases, our Denver dentists at Litvak & Woller Esthetic Comprehensive Dentistry can place a crown in just two visits. When you visit us for your first dental crown appointment, we will take digital x-rays of your teeth. With x-rays, we can determine if there are any issues that we need to address before placing the crown.

Generally, our dentists need to remove a small portion of the tooth to prepare it to receive the crown. However, that's not always necessary. For some patients, we may need to build up the damaged tooth instead for an appropriate fit.

Once we've prepared the tooth, we'll take impressions to create a mold to send to the dental lab. The lab will then use the mold to create a custom dental crown.

Before leaving your first appointment, we will provide you with a temporary crown, which you will wear until your permanent crown has been designed.

We will place the final crown on your tooth during the second appointment and ensure a perfect fit.
